Internationalization

Internationalization, is a common buzzword which, in practice, means ‘making a website or service internationally accessible’. More specifically, this might involve allowing customers to purchase goods in their native currency or providing alternative language versions of the website.

Our web application framework was designed with scope for locale-specific dynamic websites which can seamlessly determine the visitor’s country and provide different text or prices to reflect this.

We can provide translation services for those sites whose market is not to be limited to Anglophones. We can quickly provide translations into French, German, Italian or Spanish, and can source translations for other languages. Translation into languages which use non-Latin character sets - in particular for right-to-left flowing languages - may require a redesign of the website, but please ask for more details.

Maintaining an internationalized website is always a challenge. Either changes have to be made for different locales in parallel, or the content of the different-locale websites will diverge (which shouldn’t always be avoided, but can make tracking differences more difficult).

For larger sites, the expense of providing a translation for the entire website cannot always be justified by the business gained from the markets it opens up. In these cases, it may be preferable to provide translations of the core of the website, with more specialized pages available only in English, for example.
