Responsible Computing

We take security and privacy seriously at Sygneca. The IT world (and particularly the Internet) open up businesses to security hazards which never used to exist.

Alongside the opportunities the Internet brings to businesses come risks, and a responsible approach is necessary to avoid contributing to these risks. Sygneca have the concerns of everyone in mind when building solutions, and strive never to compromise anyone’s security and privacy through the use of our systems.

Safe Shopping

Many e-commerce systems are required to store or transmit customers’ credit card details. Any computer system storing credit card details or network infrastructure carrying them is a security hazard, and it cannot be taken for granted that it will never be the subject of a hacking attack. After the tranmission of credit card data between the customer and the server is complete, the risk to the data is often overlooked

When Sygneca build systems which involve private data, we ensure the data is held encrypted at all stages of storage and transmission. The electronic security of the data is then ensured, and the risk is reduced to one of physical security of passwords or secure keys.

Email and Spam

We have been asked by clients in the past to produce mass mailing systems which send email out to large lists of customers or potential customers. Unless each and every person whose email address is on such a list has explicitly ticked a checkbox to confirm that they are willing to receive email, we will not go ahead.

As many email users are aware, the problem of spam is growing, and permitting unsolicited mail to be sent out from our servers only contributes to the problem; it is against our principles of being responsible with the power computing gives us.
